Sunlight for Health

Who's afraid of sunlight? We all know about the adverse effect of ultraviolet rays from the sun. Guys, the fact I've came across with might change your entire perception about sunlight.

(Drum rolls, please!)

The ultraviolet waves are shorter than visible light and have a profound effect upon our skin, eyes, and enzyme system. When sunlight strikes the outer layer of the skin, melanin pigment (brown colored material contained in large cells) forms. Sunlight tends to “tougher” the skin, making it more resistant to disease and infections. For example, rash on baby's bottom caused by yeast organisms can be cured by careful exposure to sunlight. This is also true on athletes foot.

The sunlight's warmth bring out natural oil (cholesterol) in the skin. Under the sun's ultraviolet light, some of this fatty material is changed into Vitamin D. Exposing your face to sunlight for just five minutes a day satisfies your daily requirement of this vitamin. This is the best thing about it—it's free!

Short periods of sunbathing relax and tone the muscles.

But beware! While sunlight is a healing agent and you can get a lot of benefits which I haven't mentioned, it can also be destructive! Sunshine in moderation is what our body needs. Don't take too much exposure from it because anything in excess isn't good..
