“If you want a kitten, ask for a horse first.” Always ask for a little more than what you actually want, to leave room for bargaining. That way, even if you end up getting exactly what you wanted in the first place, the other person doesn’t lose face.
Try charm and persuasion before anything else. People will grant favors if it is also beneficial to them. Point out what they’ll get in return for what you’re asking for.
